The feast was quite delicious. I could still taste the strange desserts on my tongue as I walked back towards the dorms with my roommates and a few new people I had just met, such as Illia, Xerin (of course), Nico, and Caleb. Caleb roomed with Briar (an interesting fact I’d picked up from his knowledge of Briar and Xerin’s journey) and Nico apparently lives only a mile or two away, seeing as he has great knowledge of the school grounds and surrounding forests. Set was there too, but he was quiet as usual. He talked, of course, but in that way that tells you know he’s not very happy about it. Anyways, we were eventually forced to part ways, and Larimar, Amber and I walked back to our dorm. I was the first one to reach it, reaching out to unlock the door. The second it began to creak open I knew something had changed. A light scent of cherry blossoms rose on a strangely cool breeze that emanated from inside. The door swung open, and all any of us could manage was to stand there and stare at the interior.
The room was at least 5 times bigger than it had originally been. The walls were still a creamy off-white, but now golden stars were scattered randomly across them. Near the bottom of each wall there were two delicate, swirling golden strokes that encompassed the perimeter of the room. In each of the corners a trellis covered in cherry blossoms snaked up to the roof. About halfway up, the wall turned to glass, but the outside didn’t look like the academy. Instead it was a giant observatory, with a view of nothing but space. The roof was rounded, and curved to a point where a giant, lily-like sun brought the four sides of the room together. Right now it was on the brink between gold and silver, and a strange light seemed to emanate from it. In the center of the room, directly below the starflower, was an uplifted circular portion covered in plush carpet with golden-railed staircase leading up to it. On the upraised portion was another starflower, this one a light, shimmering grey. On the far side of the room was another staircase, this one leading up to a wide, stable ledge at the edge of the glass roof with several squashy armchairs, a lamp, a row of small bookshelves, and a low table. Three beds were spaced equidistantly around the room, and each was unique. One of the beds was suspended only a few feet off of the ground and was a strange turquoise color, with shiny purple bits. It sagged slightly in the middle, and I suspected it was something like an enormous hammock with shiny blankets and pillows. The second one was low and flat, almost a futon, with crisp white sheets printed with a delicate, monochromatic pattern of bamboo and cherry blossoms that faded towards the top, heaped with an abundance of cushions in white, black, and several shades of grey. The third bed was circular and varying colors of purple, with shimmering silver balls suspended from an overhanging bar circling the bed. To my surprise (again) my bags were on this one. Amber was the first to react.
“Holy… uh… what’s the American word?”
“Holy shit!” Larimar exclaimed as if in a trance.
“That’s it! Holy shit!” Amber said, and without missing a beat pushed past me and stepped into the room, seating herself on the low, futon-like bed.
That shook me out of my trance. I ran into the room, and over to my circular bed. I threw myself onto it, surprised at how bouncy the mattress was. Next to my bed there was a small chest of drawers for my clothes, painted in pretty shades of violet and lavender. I smiled. This was going to be far more enjoyable than I had thought.
